Prof. Kostyuk P.G. group: CALCIUM SIGNALING

Prof. Kostyuk P.G. group

Our work is devoted to investigation of calcium-regulating mechanisms in nociceptive neurons under STZ-induced diabetes mellitus. It was shown that under diabetes decreasing of both low-voltage activated and high-voltage activated calcium currents observed. Also was shown that diabetes significantly decreases the activity of endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria also. Second part of our research work is devoted to investigation of possible role of different subunits of kainat receptors (KR) in the origin and development of long-term potentiation in spinal cord. Part of our work is devoted to acute hypoglycemia influence to spontaneous pulsed activity of hyppocampal neurons. It was discovered that superfusion of hyppocampal neurons with low-glucose solution resulted in significant decreasing of frequency in pulsed neuronal activity. One of our interests is the investigation of involvement of cannabinoids in regulation of synaptic efficacy as far as anandamide (endocannabinoid) could be a candidate for an endogenous neuromessenger involved in plasticity processes.
