On March 15 during the World Brain Week, Kiev House of Scientists will host a roundtable on "Life and mind: the standpoint of contemporary science", organized by Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience, Kyiv branch of Ukrainian Biophysical Society and the Kyiv branch of the American Society for Neuroscience. This event will be open for public and invited leading scientists of the Institute of Physiology, Institute of Theoretical Physics and the Institute of Philosophy, will deliver six lectures to a wide range of listeners, including politicians, journalists and prominent cultural figures.

: 15:00 – 15:30 – Sergey Volkov: "Life by E. Schrödinger and Physics of DNA";
: 15:30 – 16:00 – Vitali Kordyum: "What is life";
: 16:00 – 16:30 – Dmitry Grodzinsky: "Reduсtionism and Holism in Biophysics;
: 16:30 – 17:00 – Oleg Krishtal: "The brain and consciousness."

Brief presentations:
: 17:00 – 17:15 – Pavel Belan: "Modern methods of brain research";
: 17:15 – 17:30 – Nana Voitenko: "World Brain Awareness Week";
: 17:30 – 18:00 – Discussion, closing round table.

== Neuroscience for schoolchildren ==
Today event was devoted to introduce schoolchildren to Neuroscience. The children of age 10-11 had an opportunity to listen the lecture and to take part in practical seminar organized by a staff of Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology. They learned about the development of brain in evolution from invertebrates to human, about the structure of neuronal cell, the main principles of organization and functioning of neuronal networks as well as how the sense of touch, hearing, eyesight and taste occur. Important information about human habits, noxious and harmful to health, was given.

During the practical seminars schoolchildren painted neurons over the boards and walls displaying the neuron structure. They sow lab animals and took part in the experiment of measuring of animal thermal sensitivity under supervision of postgraduate students.

+During the Brain Awareness Week in Ukraine (March 16-23) lead scientists and young neurophysiologists gladly welcome elementary and middle school students to the Institute laboratories. During these days children will have chance to listen to interesting lectures concerning human brain and keeping it healthy, to see popular science films and experiments that demonstrate brain function. Schoolchildren will be involved in measuring tactile, pain and temperature sensitivity. They also will observe tests with laboratory animals, examine different tissue types and cells through a microscope and draw them. Pupils will learn how to find structure differences between various cells and how to make conclusions of the work they done.
