In parallel, a set of activities for children (age 6-12) were performed, such as mini-lectures and practical seminars. The children got an opportunity to know a neuron structure, main organization and functioning of neuronal networks to sense of touching, hearing, eyesight, and keeping them healthy, to see popular science films and experiments that demonstrate brain function. Round Table "Brain - the most complex system of the Universe"
We organised several scientific lectures by the leading Ukrainian scientists in a comprehensible format to wide audience who are not experts in the field of neurophysiology, in order to familiarize with modern ideas about the brain. Politicians and journalists were invited to the public round table to promote such events in Ukraine.
1. Welcome speech of academician Prof. Oleg Krishtal
2. Natalia Shulha, PhD, Director of Ukrainian Science Club: “From naivety to consciousness”
3. Nana Voitenko, PhD, Dr. Sci, Deputy Director of Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology “What we know about pain?”
4. Pavell Belan PhD, Dr. Sci, - Head of Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology “Brain: beauty and mystery”
Young scientists from Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology and and graduated students from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Bogomolets National Medical University delivered lectures at Kiev’s schools and in Bogomolets Institute of Physiology.School students also participated in practical seminars organized by a staff of Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology and International Center of Molecular Physiology where they painted neurons with its structure and looked inside the different tissues samples using a binocular and microscope.
One whole day young scientists from Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology and International Center of Molecular Physiology spent in orphanage delivering lectures and practical seminars to kids from 5 to 15 years old. Important information about human habits, noxious and harmful to health, were highlighted.

April 24-26 2013
Chapter members participated in organization of 7th workshop “Biophysical Methods of Research” held at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology on April 24-26, 2013.
56 undergraduate students form Ukrainian and Russian Universities took part in the Workshop. The main aim of this event was to promote neuroscience for
undergraduate students with their future recruiting to Master and PhD neuroscience programs at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology, the main Institute
specialized in brain research in Ukraine. Kiev Chapter organized a luncheon for students and tutors there importance of neuroscience research has been
discussed. http://wiki.biph.kiev.ua/ru/BiophysMethodsSchool.

March 11-22 2013

During the Brain Awareness Week in Ukraine lead scientists and young neurophysiologists gladly welcomed elementary, middle and high school students to the
Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology. During these days more than 300 students visited the Institute. Schoolchildren were involved in measuring tactile and
temperature sensitivity. They examined different neuronal cell types through a microscope and drew them. Lectures were presented in accessible and interesting
form, so that even elementary school students could make conclusions without assistance. They clearly understood the necessity of “training” their brain to
improve memory and intellectual activity. Tobacco, drug and alcohol abuse and their influence on brain function and health were also highlighted.
Lectures were also delivered at boarding school for students having impaired hearing, at organisation for senior people and to non-mediacal University
students.
Chapter members together with Ukrainian Society for Neuroscience and Ukrainian Science Club, organized a roundtable on "Brain disorders: the standpoint of
contemporary science", held in Kiev House of Scientists at March 22, 2013. This event was open for public and invited leading scientists of the Institute of
Physiology and Institute of Neurosurgery, delivered three lectures to a wide range of listeners, including politicians, journalists and prominent cultural figures. Lectures:
Nana Voitenko, PhD, DrSci: "World Brain Awareness Week"
Victor Dosenko, MD, PhD, DrSci: "Molecular secrets of mental disorders (Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, drug addiction, alcoholism)";
Volodymir Medvedev, MD, PhD: "Stem cells: a story about what else there is";
Over 100 participants filled the large hall of the House of Scientists in Kyiv to take part in interesting round table and discussion.

October 6 2013

Chapter Meeting will be organized during II International symposium "Molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission regulation" to mark the 80th anniversary of
Academician V.I. Skok (1932-2003)held at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology at October 6 – 9, http://usn.org.ua/en/. During the
Meeting the BAW 2013 activities will be discussed.
