Micrograph of an Aplysia sensorymotor primary cell culture. The culture consists of a single sensory neuron (SN) together with a single gill motoneuron (L7). Insertion: Threshold stimulation of SN produces EPSP in L7 neuron.

EPSP in L7 Neuron

Threshold stimulation of SN (black trace) produces EPSP in L7 neuron (red trace). Transient hyperpolarization of L7 membrane was delivered to prevent AP generation in L7 neuron and control its input resistanse. Zero on potentiale scale corresponds to resting potential of SN and L7 neuron.
