Research activities now:

  • Revealed the key links of relationship between the disturbances of energetic metabolism and free radical processes activation in different tissues under hypoxia.
  • Studied mechanisms of pathogenetic correction of tissue hypoxia by common use of biomembrane stabilizators and antioxidants.
  • Studied the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of the oxygen-dependent cell processes regulation under adaptation to hypoxia and oxidative stress of different types.
  • Investigated the effect of intermittent hypoxia training on human respiration, free radical processes, immune and reproductive systems, age-related peculiarities of adaptation to hypoxia.
  • Elaborated devices for intermittent hypoxia treatment and methodical recommendations how to use them in medical practice (Parkinson’s disease, Bronchial asthma, Diabetes mellitus).
  • Investigated the influence of different regimen of intermittent hypoxia training on oxygen-dependent processes in tissues, mitochondrial membrane permeability transition pore, hematopoietic stem cells. Studied of breathing regulation, O2 sensing, neurophysiology of breathing.
  • Studied the methods of adaptation to hypoxia for prevention and correction of hypoxic disorders (high altitude stay, intermittent hypoxic (hyperoxic) training, and their use in medicine and sports.
  • Studied the mechanisms of muscle tissue adaptation to load hypoxia under influence of intermittent hypoxic hypoxia.
  • Developed and used of regimen of the intermittent hypoxic training (IHT) for sports team (free-divers, bicyclists, American football, rugby).
  • Experimental and clinical investigation of mitochondrial dysfunction development under hypoxia and oxidative stress: disturbances of mitochondrial structure, dynamics, energetic metabolism, ion homeostasis, redox balance.
  • Determination of the role of the genes PARK2, PARK6, PARK7, PDK1, INSR, etc., signaling pathway IGF-1 / РI3K / Akt, proteins p53, NF-kB, MnSOD, glutathione peroxidase in the development of pathological changes in neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders in the clinic and in the experiment and cytoprotective mechanisms under the influence of hypoxia.
  • Investigation of phase changes in the pattern of respiration and energetic metabolism at different types of hypoxia and oxidative stress, recovery after preconditioning modeling of exercise by electrostimulation of muscles.
  • Morpho- and stereometric investigation of ultrastructure of different cells and organelles, biological barriers in animals (under hypoxia and oxidative stress of different genesis) and in humans (Antarctic winterers, sportsmen, patients with Parkinson’s disease and Diabetes mellitus).
  • Elbrus Medical and Biological Station of the International Center of astronomical and medical and environmental research of NAS of Ukraine at a height of 2100m in the Elbrus region.
