Date of birth: May, 01, 1941.
Place of birth: Kiev, Ukraine.
EDUCATION AND SCIENTIFIC DEGREES:
1964: Graduated from the Kiev Medical Institute.
1969: Degree: Candidate of Medical Sciences (corresponding to PhD in Pathophysiology). Defended the thesis on “Investigation of functional and macrostructural state of myosin under muscle neuro-distrophy” at Kiev Medical Institute.
1986: Degree: Doctor of Medical Sciences (corresponding to MD). Defended the thesis on “Mas-transfer and utilization of Oxygen in muscle tissue, age-related peculiarities of the muscle tissue hypoxia development” at Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
2008: Professor.
Scientific Supervisor of 9 PhD thesis and Scientific Advisor of 2 DSc thesis.

SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS:
1. Developed the new approach to the oxygen regimen of muscle tissue investigation in terrestrial and marine mammals.
2. Revealed the age-related peculiarities of the muscle tissue hypoxia development.
3. Revealed the key links of relationship between the disturbances of energetic metabolism and free radical processes activation in different tissues under hypoxia.
4. Studied mechanisms of pathogenetic correction of tissue hypoxia by common use of biomembrane stabilizators and antioxidants.
5. Studied the methods of adaptation to hypoxia for prevention and correction of hypoxic disorders (high altitude stay and intermittent hypoxic training) and their use in medicine and sports.
6. Studied the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of the oxygen-dependent cell processes regulation under adaptation to hypoxia and oxidative stress of different types.
7. Experimental and clinical (Parkinson’s disease and Diabetes mellitus) investigation of mitochondrial dysfunction development under hypoxia and oxidative stress: disturbances of mitochondrial structure, dynamics, energetic metabolism, ion homeostasis, redox balance.
